In response to the recent EFSA Opinion, Tecna has developed a new ELISA kit.
A new fast test kit for the detection of T-2 and HT-2 toxins is available. The challenge for our researchers was to develop an assay with high cross-reactivity for the HT-2 metabolite.

T-2 toxin and its metabolite HT-2 toxin are mycotoxins of the group trichothecenes type A produced by fungi of the Fusarium genus, which are commonly found in various cereal crops and processed grains. These toxins have been shown to cause a variety of toxic effects in both animals and humans, including protein synthesis inhibition, immunity system alterations, haematopoiesis inhibition .

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) recently reasserted that in vivo, T2-toxin is quickly metabolized into the HT-2 derivative, still maintaining the same toxicity. HT-2 toxin can reach the 70% of the total contamination. It is therefore mandatory to have analytical methods suitable for detecting both toxins. For this purpose, Tecna recently developed and validated a new, fast and easy ELISA test kit for the quantitative detection of T-2 and HT-2 toxins in cereals and feed. The calibration range of the assay is 0.025 - 1.00 ppm. By diluting the extracts the measuring range can be extended up to 5 ppm. The assay performances were validated for whole wheat, wheat flour, oats, maize, barley, poultry feed and swine feed.

Celer® T2 meets the requirements of the Commission Recommendation 2013/165/EU of 27 March 2013 on the presence of T-2 and HT-2 toxin in cereals and cereal products.

The assay time is 20 minutes, while the sample preparation takes about 5 minutes. It is the same procedure of all the other Celer® test kits for mycotoxins, thus enabling end-users to extract samples just once and run the same extracts on the kits for deoxynivalenol, fumonisins, zearalenone, aflatoxins. The comprehensive contaminations results are achievable in less than half an hour. Celer® T2 is available in 48 (Cod. MT101) and 96 (Cod.
